PR/Communications Intern: Fall, 2010
Position: Assisting conference chairman of national association to plan and execute PR, communications, and publicity tasks for upcoming annual conference. Interns must be pursuing a degree in PR, journalism, or mass communications at a 4-year or 2-year institution of higher learning.
Organization: The Old Spanish Trail Association, a not-for-profit historical and cultural organization dedicated to the exploration and preservation of the Old Spanish Trail (www.oldspanishtrail.org). In the 1800s this trail was a route for commerce between Santa Fe, NM, and the pueblo of Los Angeles, in CA.
Supervision: The intern will work under the direction of OSTA’s conference chair, Mr. Jack Prichett. Mr. Prichett is a long-time member of PRSA and a former senior manager of public relations at Northrop Grumman Corporation. He has extensive experience in communications management and during his corporate career won numerous awards for professional excellence.
The Conference: Will take place, probably in Pomona, CA, from June 2 thru 5, 2011.
Scope of Work for the Intern: Activities during autumn 2010 will involve long-lead time outreach to local organizations and government agencies. Specific tasks will include:
Working under conference and program chairs to develop and execute a strategic plan and timetable for PR and outreach
Writing and preparation of print and web publicity
Participating in the recruitment of corporate sponsors for the conference
Long-term strategic planning for PR and promotional activities in spring, 2011, leading up to the conference
Time and Credit: The internship is a non-paid position, but will provide great opportunities to gain experience in basic PR and outreach for a growing and active organization.
The intern will need to commit at least 10 hours work per week

The Pollack PR Marketing Group
West Basin Municipal Water District provides potable and recycled water to local water utility companies and municipal water departments in the coastal Los Angeles area. The District serves a nearly 1,000,000 residents in 17 cities and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, and is a national leader in water recycling, desalination, conservation, water resource management, and education programs.
The Position
The Intern will assist staff in communicating water recycling, conservation and education programs. Work will include assisting with various public relations activities and consultants, development of public information presentations and materials; writing press releases and other information products; coordinating special education projects and District events; managing tour schedules; and preparing power point presentations, reports, studies and correspondence.
Eligible applicants must be a junior or above attending an accredited college in good standing. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written/verbal communication and customer service skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and good computer skills. A major in communications, marketing, public relations or related field is preferred. A driver’s license, vehicle insurance and an acceptable driving record are required.
Work hours are flexible and average approximately 20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Evening and weekend work may be required on assigned projects.

Public Relations Intern: Forward Step is looking for a motivated, entrepreneurially inclined student to help with the public relations and marketing responsibilities regarding our COMPASS program.
